Teacher Magazine: What Second-Stage Teachers Want: "They often enter the second stage of teaching “seeking opportunities for influence and responsibility beyond the context of their own classroom teaching.”"
Oh yeah, "Higher pay was an important factor, too."
It is not always about the intrinsic rewards. Teachers are professionals with houses and cars to buy and families to raise. Ultimately, this is why I left the classroom during the exact critical period noted in this article. The ONE time where teachers could have been rewarded in a meaningful monetary way, they were NOT.
